Tomorrow is a very special day....apparently this has been occurring for years, but I had no idea. A blessing in disguise, probably. There is a National Doughnut Day - and it's occurring 06/04/10. Krispy Kreme is giving out FREE doughnuts - rumor has it that it's a doughnut of YOUR CHOICE!!!! I suppose I should add that I also heard that those "other" doughnut places are following suit, but I'm the ultimate doughnut snob and feel like Dunkin Donuts is (a) a spelling travesty - I despise places/products that misspell (i.e. - cheez) (b) is a cheap, wanna be knock off doughnut shop (c) they don't even have the right kind of kreme filling. Yeah, note I said kreme - so I'm totally negating point (a), I guess....it's not like krispy is a spelling bee winner either. Regardless, Dunkin Donuts is crappy.
I pretty much will never/have never turned down a Krispy Kreme Glazed Kreme Filled doughnut. I've been pretty far down in the depths of anorexia in my lifetime - but for a glorious moment, I could always be swayed for kreme filled doughnuts from ole' KK. Never mind the self-repercussions that we won't discuss - but I just can't turn 'em down. They are an "okay" splurge for me. Don't try to give me a plain glazed, bc I don't care about it; don't try to give me a chocolate glazed kreme filled - bc I don't care about it, don't try to give me a cake doughnut - bc I don't care about it either. I'm a purist - give me Kreme Filled or Give Me Death! :)
So...for a fun, beginning of Summer pick me up - stop by your local KK and retrieve your free doughnut to celebrate the awesome holiday. On a serious note...I did a little Wiki research & discovered that National Doughnut Day started in 1938 by the Salvation Army to honor women who served doughnuts to soldiers in WWI. Doughnuts AND History - almost too much to handle in my little world :)
