Random Musings on a Snow Day

I love, love, love, snow days! I love, love, love, winter! You will never hear me complain about it...but you will, however; hear me complain ad nauseum about the Devil's season (a.k.a. Summer) - where it's all hot and you get all sunburned when you walk outside, leisurely strolls have you feeling like you have COPD and running dang near hurts. You know, you spend all that time trying to look right, but your face is sweating so hard while you're putting your makeup on that you shouldn't even waste your time. Then you step outside and your makeup runs and you instantly look like the Joker. Yeah, that's the season I hate. Winter makes you look all pretty with flushed cheeks and lips and the pullovers are heavenly. But, I digress. Anyway, we had a snow day today! Yay! So, here's my random thoughts from today's events:

* the beautiful Facebook and Instagram pics are so pretty to look at, but it's all a farce, I tell you. If your household is like mine, getting out into the snow is a free-for-all of whining, begging, relentless questioning, looking for missing mittens, and fake promises by your kids that they won't complain about the cold. Well, once you get out there, it's a big sloppin' wet mess after a couple of snow angels and poop dodging from the Labrador. Momma isn't any help to the biggest girl because she's holding the littlest girl who has no mittens because they don't come in her size and who screams and cries when her (inappropriate) boots touch the white slush. But darn it, the pictures are cute.

* Today I was going to be mother of the year. I had this super duper Rice Krispie treat kit that I was going to use to impress the biggest girl. She was pumped and I was awesome...til we started making them and I skimped on the butter and started another task that she asked me to do for her and he sister and burned the marshmallows. Then the ratio of Rice Krispies to marshmallow stuff was waaay, waaay off and it wasn't gonna happen. It looked like super glue and a field of barley. When I broke the news to her, I thought she was gonna cut me...and her eyes were pure disappointment and I could've seriously shed a tear. Whatever teacher passed me in 7th grade home ec must have graded on a severe curve, because as evidenced by my adult life, I deserved to fail and be held back. Especially because this wasn't my first, second, or third incident with failure of Rice Krispie treats.

* I felt like Nick Saban at spring practice as much as I had to tell my oldest to "focus and finish" today. She can't just finish the task at hand. There has to be 45 things happening at one time and none of them get completed. Seriously. Focus and finish. Then she informed me that that saying was funny. I really didn't think so...

* I'm mad at teachers for hanging up things in their rooms. Not really, because I would be all kind of overboard if I were a teacher. But, W loves to play school, and that means we own stock in Scotch tape because she insists on creating a classroom and taping schedules and "amazing word" lists and lunch menus and calendars and classroom news, etc. it's all over the place and I'm OCD and it KILLS me!!!!!!!!

* I hate the kids game "Mouse Trap". Whoever made it is my arch enemy for life. It's a mess and is stupid. I don't even have anything cool or witty to say about it. I dislike it a lot!!!

* Two children can destroy a semi-clean house in less than 15 minutes flat.

* Never turn your back on a mischievous 16 month old. They climb...and you may eat crow for something you said that you would 'never allow to happen on my watch'.

* My number one pet peeve is if you ask me to do something and get something out for you...please play with it for more than 1 minute. That's asinine and makes for a mad mommy.  Insert Nick Saban comment here: "focus and finish".

* Sometimes on snow days, you may let naptime get cut a little short. Well, today I let it start about 2 hours later to allow for ample play time. Apparently, baby C couldn't truly handle this, because she began pretending like she was giving me kisses, and then she promptly bit my nose. I think she was trying to protest nap time and was disguising it as a kiss....like I might not notice.

* I'm glad school is out another day and all that, but I was about to go wild all over the administration when they began blowing up my phone and texts about it and it was about to wake up my little people. Are you kidding? I've been elbow deep in poop diapers and asking a six year old to focus and finish. Please don't wake the animals.

* I don't care how bad parts of today were, I had fun in the playhouse with my girls, I liked playing bowling with them, I cherished all of C's kisses, even the nose biting one, I enjoyed watching as W washed her own strawberries and then sweetly washed some for her sister. Despite the fact that I know the background story, I love our cute snow pics. I am glad that we ended up making brownies, because everyone knows brownies > Rice Krispie treats....and last, but not least, there's nothing better than a snow day. I just wished that my husband didn't have to work today so he could enjoy it....however, he will get his snow day tomorrow while I slip slide to work before the chickens awake to take care of patients :)

As a nice throwback, I would like to remind the masses that W hated her first snow too.

Happy snow days!!!!! :) :)
