Married Dating
I love date nights :) I love date weekends even more! I used to consider "date night" as some cheesy "save your marriage" tactic that marriage and family counselors recommended to couples who complained that they "didn't have anything in common anymore". Boy, was I mistaken! Date nights are totally for parents! Date nights are for people who love one another so much that they actually want to have an adult conversation - without interruptions - for an extended period. It's amazing how renewing a conversation can be with your big love without your little love screaming "mommy", "daddy", "hey - let me see your iphone", "what are you talking about?", "talk about me", "I want gum", "I'm ready to go", "I don't like this", "I want your phone", "what's that smell?", "where are we going?", etc. Not complaining, mind you, I love that sweet tiny voice that says all of these phrases - even when they are annoying - and I'm trying to have a serious conversation. So, my sweet big love concocted a weekend date for us last weekend! We had a sitter for W and Dubya the wonder lab - thanks to Poppy and Lovie - p.s.: hope you have recovered :) He booked a suite in a fun little riverboat in Chattanooga called the Delta Queen. It doesn't sail anymore, but it's in the river. The view is of the bridge and it's amazing. The shops around it are quaint and quirky. Fun, fun stuff. Warning: there's not a tv in the room. I don't know why, but we were surprised by this. Whatev - like married adult date night should consist of tv. Ha. The ceiling was a little low in our room and Jimmy's head was pretty dang close to the ceiling. Yay for being 5 feet tall! It has its privileges! We went to the Melting Pot. One of my super favorites, but Jimmy thinks it's totally OVERRATED. Yeah, it really is, if we're being honest. $125 bucks on a meal that you're just gonna turn around and poop out. Pardon the grossness, but it's a fact. But, you're paying for the experience and the ambiance and we got to snuggle in a booth and chat leisurely and dreamily. I'd pay it anyday! :) The next day we were gonna go walk around the cute quaint town, but it was pouring rain and thundering. We went to the movies. We ate popcorn and M&Ms. We ate a fun lunch together and then we drove home just in time to take a nap before retrieving our retriever and our little love from Poppy and Lovie. Rejuvenation. Relaxation. No agenda. Just fun. Just togetherness. Just us. :) Aaah!

I like the 'no tv' warning! We don't have cable here so its a huge treat to get to veg in front of a tv! We went to a super expensive resort in the New York mountains (parts of Dirty Dancing were filmed there) and were shocked when we got there and saw that there was no tv.
